They’re not that visible downtown but they live in the northeast section.

Planned actions include:

Oakland action: 7:30pm, Grant Oscar Plaza.

(That should be: Oscar Grant Plaza.)

In Oakland, saw this afternoon:

* a Chase bank being outfitted with plywood on all its windows, when I asked the security person why, he said it was "for the protests."

* A (white) woman wearing an "End White Supremacy" T-shirt.

A maskless black woman getting her picture taken (posing, smiling in front of a grocery store) by another maskless black woman (in Oakland, everyone has to wear masks in public when near other people.)

Two other maskless black women, near the same grocery store, one of whom was wearing a shirt with "Community Ambassador" on the back.

A plywood sign (highway underpass location) with "Defund Police" and a picture of Oscar Grant.

So the riots are scheduled to start at 7:30. Everybody be safe!

Maybe the "Community Ambassador" will be there to explain and interpret events for onlookers, including the news media.

New Jersey: at Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 12, 6pm.

That’s kind of funny all by itself, but also because Black Lives Matter was blocking traffic to the Holland Tunnel today as I left work at about 7. Those drivers looked a little pissed, the ones that weren’t practically doing cartwheels to get out of the area.

Until the cop vans finally came and that was the end of that.

Race/Ethnicity 80.5% are whites; 2.9% black; 0.9% are American Indian or Alaska Native; 4.9% are Asian, 0.3% are Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander, 4.1% are some other race, 3.3% are two or more races. The Hispanic or Latino make up 8% of the total population.

Portland is the Whitest major city in the U.S. (with population of at least 500,000 in city limits)

Well, Google says 6% but that is still low.

I don’t think Portland is the whitest city. I think New York is.

Thanks for the report from the ground. From what I've seen, the Occupy Oakland network is heavily involved in organizing there.

They probably didn’t win many points by blocking traffic. . .

There’s always a backup in that spot at rush hour. We can hear the honking from the office. So at first a lot of people thought it was the usual mess and would soon ease up. When they caught on that it was protesters they weren’t happy. They either had looked at their phones or could hear the chanting.
