Ping! Hope you are doing well, and if you have any time for a response, I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on this article. It would be easy to miss on the FR browse index. It’s unfortunate that the OP didn’t include any brief portion of it, so it appears as nothing but click bait, but I think it has some important information for us laypeople.

Thank you for the ping. I will give my opinion noting that this is just that. My opinion.

I think people have forgotten what the whole exercise is. When we shut down it was to flatten the curve. So that the health system was not overrun. At that time we were scared of the Italian dilemma. Combined with the inaccurate models from England of 2.2 M American deaths and Armageddon it was thought simply flatten the curve to keep the health care system in tact.

If you look back at worldometer (not a great data site but we can see trends) the curve flattened. Now we are paying the price. As I said and others said, flattening the curve does NOT change the number of cases, but spreads it over time to prevent resource saturation.

We’re we successful? Yes. According to the original goal. But now the goalposts have moved. We are to have NO transmission. Impossible. It’s a virus like every other pandemic. Nothing you can do to stop it.

We are dealing with a virus with LESS THAN A 0.2% mortality rate. In retrospect Italy was a disaster exactly because they are the most aged population on the planet. With a mortality of 12-20% in the elderly infirmed we know there were no surprises.

99.8% of people recover with no issues the vast majority of whom have no idea they even had this virus that is a cousin of the common cold. But cue the Fearpers with their dishonest mathematical analysis cloaked in alleged expertise. The Fearpers who seem to get hooked into every promise of a cure with doctors more interested in promoting their YouTube site and cashing in instead of practicing medicine. And then the real head scratcher the people who want it both ways. Those that demand no spread and yet rail irrationally against a vaccine stating there is some nefarious plot afoot.

Complicate all of this with you the HCQ fiasco (excellent treatment with AZI and ZN early on) and probably as a stand alone for prophylaxis where politics intervened and we have sacrificed science and inquiry in armchair expertise.

And God knows everyone is an expert on the internet and can spew garbage without back up. And then attack ad hominem those who far contradict them. The list is obvious. Science can be fast tracked in the hands of experts. People forgot the Manhattan project. We have made unbelievable advances in science when the occasions demanded it. But today? We are afraid. We are afraid to say we are the best. We can do this. Operation warp speed is the current Manhattan project and President Trump is correct in his approach

We are seeing the isolation of humans. Evil is triumphing. We are forcing people to have the telescreen as their only interaction. Tell me this isn’t Orwellian. The real question is will we stand for what we are and should be , or will we be docile like sheep in front of their shearers. I am not sure that this is the time. But I have read the book. It’s a Good book. I know how it ends. Whatever the timing may be.
