You folks don’t get it. You’ll be safe in an RV exploring the west? Get real. I say invest in South American developments (for us). Pick the perfect latitude/longitudal location with water and agriculture. All your assets back home can’t be counted on so sell fast and move. The folks in Hong Kong won’t be so lucky. Same with South Africans.

I have been seriously considering starting an IT company in Panama. I made some moves in that direction last year, but it was like pulling teeth just to get a lawyer to set things up (and setting up a bank account is also not trivial.). I’ve done it before, and been pretty successful, only then it was in Argentina.

I think having an IT company in the same time zone as the US would be worth it’s weight in gold, and I suspect that the fishing down there is really good as well.

Were I more adventurous, I would advocate a move to Tierra del Fuego.
