Medical examiner- No 'traumatic asphyxiation or strangulation' in George Floyd death
The Blaze ^ | June 29, 2020 | Carlos Garcia

After several nights of violent rioting over the death of George Floyd in police custody, the release of preliminary findings from the medical examiner's autopsy will likely not ease the nationwide tensions.

The findings were included in the charges made Friday against Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who arrested Floyd and kneeled on his neck before he died Monday evening.

"The autopsy revealed no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation," read the summary of the findings from the the Hennepin County medical examiner.

It’s actually a very diverse crowd of rioters, looters, and arsonists, blacks, whites, Mexicans, and Asians. I hear that the weepy-eyed pansy of a mayor is considering awarding a certificate to all the rioters, looters, and arsonists to show his personal appreciation for their efforts at promoting racial and ethnic harmony in the city. They’ll get their certificate along with a mask.

I’m going to bet, had it not been for his interaction with the police that day, he’d likely have safely made it home without dying.

And I'm going to bet that without years of poor health decisions, consumption of massive amounts of intoxicants, passing a counterfeit 20, refusal to return the pack of smokes, and resisting arrest, would have allowed him to safely make it home without dying, too.

Where does the vast majority of the blame lie?

No one but the cop knows how much pressure he put on his neck.

A common complaint of heart attack victims is "I can't breathe".

The best position for such a person, especially one who is intoxicated, is on the side.

I think they're going to have a very difficult time proving that anything this cop did contributed to Floyd's death.

Not that it matters.

Guilt or innocence is irrelevant.

The die has already been cast.

Yeah, this may not be as cut and dried as people think, which will really piss off the natives.

It will be some time before the toxicology report is completed. Meanwhile the media driven lynchings will go on at the planned out pace.

CHAUVIN Derek, COMPLAINT

STATEMENT OF PROBABLE CAUSE (excerpt)

The defendant pulled Mr. Floyd out of the passenger side of the squad car at 8:19:38 p.m. and Mr. Floyd went to the ground face down and still handcuffed. Kueng held Mr. Floyd’s back and Lane held his legs. The defendant placed his left knee in the area of Mr. Floyd’s head and neck. Mr. Floyd said, “I can’t breathe” multiple times and repeatedly said, “Mama” and “please,” as well. The defendant and the other two officers stayed in their positions.

The officers said, “You are talking fine” to Mr. Floyd as he continued to move back and forth. Lane asked, “should we roll him on his side?” and the defendant said, “No, staying put where we got him.” Officer Lane said, “I am worried about excited delirium or whatever.” The defendant said, “That’s why we have him on his stomach.” None of the three officers moved from their positions.

BWC video shows Mr. Floyd continue to move and breathe. At 8:24:24, Mr. Floyd stopped moving. At 8:25:31 the video appears to show Mr. Floyd ceasing to breathe or speak. Lane said, “want to roll him on his side.” Kueng checked Mr. Floyd’s right wrist for a pulse and said, “I couldn’t find one.” None of the officers moved from their positions.

At 8:27:24, the defendant removed his knee from Mr. Floyd’s neck. An ambulance and emergency medical personnel arrived, the officers placed Mr. Floyd on a gurney, and the ambulance left the scene. Mr. Floyd was pronounced dead at Hennepin County Medical Center.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner (ME) conducted Mr. Floyd’s autopsy on May 26, 2020. The full report of the ME is pending but the ME has made the following preliminary findings. The autopsy revealed no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation. Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease. The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.

The defendant had his knee on Mr. Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in total. Two minutes and 53 seconds of this was after Mr. Floyd was non-responsive. Police are trained that this type of restraint with a subject in a prone position is inherently dangerous.

No one but the cop knows how much pressure he put on his neck.

Well, there is some objective evidence to show that not much pressure was being applied: Floyd continued to talk, and remained conscious for quite a while. If significant pressure had been applied to the carotid, he would have passed out in 15-30 seconds max.

This is not going to be a slam-dunk to prosecute.

I will go out on a limb here and say that these simple findings will be corroborated by any forensic doctor.

This is FR. It’s either black or white and you will be eviscerated if you trot out something different from our group think. We don’t have the bandwidth to entertain more complex possibilities. Instead of studying logic, most have heard there are books on logic. Somewhere.

Not everyone. I think the fact that George Floyd was screaming “I can’t breathe” while he was STANDING UP will wake folks up. Personally, I think its the younger generation. Very little civility amongst the Millennials. Black and white, but no gray, just as you say.

If the brain is being starved of oxygen because somebody has put too much pressure on the carotid artery with his knee, a hypoxic event can occur. You will feel breathless just before your heart stops, but you can still talk... until you lose conscience. Incontinence is also a symptom.
