The audience when I saw him was really fired up (and this was in Grand Rapids, MI, so, unusual) and having fun, but he was having at least twice as much fun, it just comes through. He did a 9 or 11 minute version of Mombasa, and I thought, okay, finale, now an encore — but he was only about halfway through his show. Just dynamite.

1927, wow, that guy was around for a long time. I saw him in concert in 1982 and my parents attended a music workshop that he conducted at Penn State in 1984. A couple days after the workshop concluded, he passed away.

Oh hey, I’m loving this immediately.
The all-piano album from David Sancious is a fave at work (the CD is, you guessed it, somewhere around here).
Meanwhile, Michigan’s own (I think) Jim Chappell’s “June Dance”:

Listening to Espagnoletta, Spirit of Florence, starting in at 1:06. First minute is not pleasant, rest is great.

Also listening to a lot of Leonid and Friends (as linked in post #21). These guys (and gal) are a joy to see and hear and we saw them perform in November.
I listen to a lot of podcasts since I drive all day at work, but the two general interest ones I am listening to now is The American Revolution and History Unplugged.
Most of my reading is background material for preparing my weekly Bible studies, but currently I'm also reading Saints Who Battled Satan and up next in the queue is Jesus and the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Heh... I’ve just started the L&F cover of “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?”. At bedtime (any minute) I’m going to hunt up the Tanglewood show from 1970.
