I agree. This Virus fear is being whipped into a frenzy to cost people money and it has tremendously. People have now lost a LOT OF MONEY and that will have an effect one way or another. I'm not saying people will vote for Bernie but they may lose some enthusiasm.
Not so fast (I am assuming you are referring to Bloomberg and not Steyer).
Would Bloomberg take on this role? Why would he? Has he ever displayed a willingness to sacrifice of himself for the sake of others? Has he ever displayed integrity? No. He is a deeply selfish man. He is running for the nomination because he is so deluded that he actually thinks he can win. But is he *so* deluded that he would think he could steal/buy the nomination and somehow get even within 10 points of Trump? I don’t think anyone could be that deluded. He would *have* to know that he was merely a sacrificial lamb at that point (bearing in mind, especially, how battered he is being just in the last week or two).
But even if he did accept, what is in it for the DNC? Have a billionaire buy the nomination, and the DNC can kiss goodbye forever 20-30% of their current base (hello, Green party). What is more, the party will sacrifice forever their claim to “the Republicans are for the rich, the Democrats for the working class.” Goodbye African-American turnout (if not actual votes). Goodbye the remaining blue collar Democrats (still a sizable group). Goodbye young social justice warriors.
No. The answer is not easy. The only thing worse for the Democrats than a Sanders nomination would be a Bloomberg nomination.

My sense of this is that if they back Sanders they lose the election really take a beating on the down ballot races. If they back Bloomberg they lose the presidential race but retain as much of the state and local races as possible.

You are correct in that Bloomy is selfish but his end game is likely NOT JUST the nomination if he can get it. He’d settle for CEO of the DNC, which would make him CEO of America if the Dem party [keeps the House], [regains the Senate], [wins the Presidency].

Best scenario for the collapse of the Democratic Socialist Party is Bernie gets 40-45%, and everyone else is less than 20% , all the other candidates give their delegates to someone who is a distant 2nd or 3rd, and that one gets a plurality and the nomination. The result could be a candidate that receives less than 20% of votes nationally gets the nomination. AKA John McCain, and has no nationwide appeal in the general in November.

This is the part I find bothersome that this bunch has “woes”. Having been given them free stuff most of their lives, never made to mind or get a good paying job and being brainwashed has led to their feelings of being screwed by capitalism. Fact is, they are actually quite entitled but too stupid to know it.
I’ve been in the desert of Eritrea and watched people so poor all they own is their camel and whatever it can carry. As a kid real poor people were skinny, never had a TV, a car and wore worn out clothes. I’ve been in a war zone watching people get shot and blown up. Now fast forward to modern times and think Venezuela. These are examples of real poor people, people that are being screwed.
What these young mindless wonders will be doing by voting in a die hard commie is voting for the end of their own damn privileged life! Give a decade or so of extreme socialism and we will be Venezuela.

If he tries, and the DNC allows it, he and the DNC are equally self-deluded. If a billionaire (especially one as universally disliked as himself), were to buy the nomination, not only would he get trounced in the general election, not only would would lose the house, but they would be facing years of hemorrhaging voters. Basically, he would have bought the Titanic 5 minutes after it struck the iceberg.
I would love nothing more than for him to do so. The Democrat party (which, for decades, has not been an ideologically united party, but rather a loose coalition of individual fiefdoms that despise and distrust each other tremendously), would split apart. No amount of hatred for Trump could keep it together.

One thing to remember is that neither republicans/conservatives or democrats/progressives/liberals elect the president. The 6% or 7% of people who have no core values elect the president. These people could go into the voting booth with a choice between the most extreme democrat and the most rational republican and not be able to decide who to vote for. Trump was a “black swan”. Any other candidate and Hillary is the president. My point is, don’t take anything for granted.
I think Bernie is a true threat. Not a joke at all. Decades of indoctrinated younger generations will flock to vote for a true commie. What the hell do they know? They’ve been taught that this crap is awesome and tha5 capitalism is the blame for all their woes.
