Mississippi is bracing for more flooding as rising waters caused by days of heavy downpours swell rivers in the state capital of Jackson, causing fears to rise with the river amid speculation it will breach its banks and threaten thousands of homes.

Governor Tate Reeves declared a state of emergency due to the “historic, unprecedented flood” that was not expected to crest before Monday. "This is a precarious situation that can turn at any moment," Reeves said at a press conference Sunday morning. "It will be days before we're out of the woods and the water starts to recede."

Having been to Jackson several times, it's unreal to see some of these areas under water... never even knew it was possible!

Does anybody know, is it worse than the 1979 Easter flood?

This is the third-highest crest on record at 36.7 ft. The Easter flood was 43.3 ft and May 1983 was 39.6. Hard to imagine the water being 6.5 ft higher than this!

“Historic”, and “unprecedented,” in Demspeaks means, “not in my lifetime,” or “not since I took office.”

The Pearl’s highest recorded crest was 43.2 feet on April 17, 1979. The second-highest level occurred May 5, 1983, when the river rose to 39.58 feet. This comes in third, at ‘just under 37 feet’.

The house has bin stripped down to the studs twice and rebuilt. Now a third time.

And they kerp extending the road toward the river so more hpuses can be built lower down.
