Iran has been at war with US and Israel ever since they held the Embassy hostage. They even said so and have continued to say so. We have chosen to ignore it until now.
If they intend to have war then sooner is far better than later.

Well, every day for about forty years these ass-hats have vowed the destruction of Israel and you be the judge of how effective their campaign has been.
One suspects they have some military assets they have not used out of fear of reprisals (from Israel). So if they are already that afraid to follow through on their religious-mania rhetoric, multiply that by ten for their justified fear of what the U.S. could do to them.
The strongest actions they could take would be no more than high-visibility provocations. The strongest actions our side can take run all the way to total destruction of all valuable assets.
I don’t foresee large nuclear strikes on cities in this response, that would create a variety of problems that are not necessary. It’s the regime that needs to be terminated, not the entire population. But I would not wish to be anywhere near Qum, or any kind of high-value military or economic target, if the mad mullahs finally roll the dice.
People have put up with this nuthouse regime mainly because they perceive it to be 99% talk and 1% action, if it ever changed to insane acts on a larger scale, then the end would come very quickly (and European, Canadian, Democrat criticism would be futile whataboutery).

You're forgetting our "Boomer" submarines. You can bet there are 1 or 2 in the north Arabian Sea right now. Depending on their payload (nuke or tomahawk), they could pretty much wipe out Iran's military capability. We need NO troops on the ground. Plus, we have air bases surrounding Iran.
