One thing is that Chinese Americans with Hong Kong affiliations virtually all believe Trump is ruining their homeland for personal gain. Somehow the idea that the CIA is behind the protests but is at the same time trying to get Trump impeached has not occurred to them - they just think US = Trump and it’s all his fault.

If that’s the case, they’ve presumably become unplugged from the majority of Hong Kong voters. Because the election outcome suggests that Hongkongers really, really don’t like Xi Jinping’s hand-picked quislings.
