FDR in 1936, Lyndon Johnson in 1964, Richard Nixon in 1972, Ronald Reagan in 1984, all won by over 20 points. Trump will gain a victory on that scale next year, and he will have earned it
Just as I was pulling my chair up to my desk and preparing to pounce clumsily upon my keyboard and pound out something about the current Canadian election campaign, an email from an old and valued friend popped up enclosing the dumbest column from the Globe and Mail I have seen in 65 years as a frequent reader of that newspaper. By Lawrence Martin, it is entitled: Donald Trumps Luck Has Run Out. I will not engage in another effort to invite Canadian readers to contemplate the fact that just because Trump repels most Canadians as a caricature of a boorish and boastful and loutish American, that does not mean that he is unlikely to be successful. A great many Canadians want the United States, if it doesnt have a leftish and diffident president like Jimmy Carter or Barack Obama, to have in the White House someone they can disparage like Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, or George W. Bush (though Reagan, retroactively, has enjoyed grudging admiration). My problem isnt what Canadians think of Trump, it is the stupefying purblindness of current Canadian journalistic political comment on the United States.

I’m seeing a 40+ state electoral landslide.
No way he gets a 20% popular vote margin, though.
The Democrats are too good at vote harvesting.
I don’t think the landslide will be that large, but if it were, the Civil War might start, with the lefties firing the first shot, which is how it should be.
Absolutely true, and I'm glad Mr. Black had the courage to say this.
The land of opportunity is the place where anyone can accomplish almost anything, but there is a threadbare safety net
This is the stupidest thing I've heard anyone say in a long time. Until he wrote this, I had the utmost respect for Conrad Black. Now, not so much.
What are the 10 or more states you have him picking up?
I recommend that everyone read the original article. It is quite good.
Warren = Dukakis Maybe she can get Susan Estrich to run her campaign - woman power!
Because the left are unhinged ... that’s why he’ll win. Voters are getting sick of it all.
CO, NM, NH, MN, NV, VA, ME, OR, DE, NJ
LOL!
One could hope but I don’t think so...I could legitimately see him picking up CO,NM,MN,NV though
“...stupefying purblindness...”
Had to look it up.
Means:;
Slow in understanding or discernment; dull
Poor vision or nearly blind;
Blind.
Not just “purblindness”, but “stupefying purblindness”.
I’ve got a new word. That is practically useless to me.
“I dont think the landslide will be that large, but if it were, the Civil War might start, with the lefties firing the first shot, which is how it should be.”
The way the ‘lefties’ are playing this campaign, and the impeachment of Trump, I think we get a Civil War no matter who wins in 2020. Left & Right agree on absolutely nothing, and the Left will not leave our civil liberties alone if they take power.
It’s difficult to get the perspective of voters who don’t follow it regularly if you’re someone who does. Are they thinking, Trump just won’t stop, enough already or are they thinking the media won’t stop, give it a rest or are they thinking the Democrats really need to get over it. You obviously know how those who follow feel but what about those who do not? I think the bigger point is when they do start tomfollow are they going to like what they hear from Trump or the other crazies...That one, to me, isn’t as hard to predict
But I don't think he gets ten more.
I think he will win though, and possibly even the popular vote.
Those states would all be narrow-wins. Possible, but it would be more of the “threading of the needle” that was successfully done in 2016. Possible though.
No on all of those. Nevada is a maybe. New Hampshire is a stretch but maybe. Still needs to hold on to Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Iowa. Those are the only states he took in 2016 that I think are in danger in 2020.
I think he will win though, and possibly even the popular vote.
June of 2020 could kill him. If he gets past that then he's got a better than even chance. But a lot can happen between now and 13 months from now.
As Rush said today, the civil war has already started. It’s a cold war.
He can win several states if he can get poll watchers and also vote counter watchers. Honest elections in Vegas Phoenix Detroit Cincinnati St. Louis etc. get honest elections in a few big cities and the rest of the states will carry the day Oh yeah, canoeing in those cities too. Like how trump did in Detroit last time. It helped a lot
“Maybe she can get Susan Estrich to run her campaign”
Oh, don’t do that — put Susan Estrich and her voice in my head. Haven’t thought about her in years. Now, that voice will be an ear worm for a week.
