That's always been a weak point of the AR.
Billet or forged, the billet buffer tubes are stronger in my opinion, and there are some who make them out of 7075 as well.
The threads have always been a weakpoint for me though, the tubing is thin and there can be a lot of stress right there. Not from firing, but just in general use from any side forces.
I make them, but to be honest they aren’t my favorite style of gun. I’m a little more old school myself, although I do have a few laying around for plinking with.
