How come no one is talking about Biden rambling about how we should stay home at night and listen to the radio, record player, phonograph.....Victrola, High Fi, Graamphone, The Edison?
This stuff is great.
“Vinyl is making a big comeback..”
I just read that vinyl sales has overtaken CD sales.
Was it really that bad, back then?
I don’t see why this is a big deal.
Its relevant because it indicates how out of touch this guy is, how he rambles, and how he doesnt know enough to stop talking and collect his thoughts.
Plus it was just absurd.
I actually meant havent called it...
My wife you make fun of me if I called it a record player.
I just went to bed and didnt catch the typo.
Vinyl set to outsell CDs for first time since 1986

Not quite yet, but very likely for the 2nd half of 2019, and possibly for the year:

Vinyl IS growing, and CD's have been sinking, esp. by $ volume.
By unit volume, CD's are still considerably ahead.(Above link.)
Lots of good long term info. here (cool interactive graphs!) :

I can’t even bear to think about the bazillion records I left for my little brother in 1971 when I moved to Alaska. :(
What’s wrong with listening to the phonograph?
After I posted I remembered Biden was referring to the crash in 1929.
Nothing. Nothing at all.
The family should gather around the phonograph. And the children should take turns winding it up after every platter.
The new Sousa tune is really easy to march to.
Well, I could play devil’s advocate and point out that if the vinyl is still in good shape, and especially for some of the stuff Biden might be listening to, it might actually be higher quality than the current “crushed” reissues and sources.
Take a look on the http://dr.loudness-war.info/ website.
OTOH, current FM (music) radio is just awful. I can only think of a couple stations in this region (not just the local area) that are not mush.
So, Biden could have been right.
People with dementia often revert to the past. My sister-in-law is severely demented in her old age & speaks of little else but her childhood.
Here's that moment Joe Biden was talking about playing record players for kids pic.twitter.com/7t5CIoEKpq— BuzzFeed News (@BuzzFeedNews) September 13, 2019
And don't forget-the needle had to be changed after every play or the records would be ruined.
In the living room, there is a Victrola that can still play.
Someone needs to load the quad tapes of those chats of FDR for the professional fool.
Lets not miss the point. While I appreciate the intent of the what the guy was saying: In essence, get the kids off the phone and listening to stuff that will help them—the words and images created in our minds were straight “Norman Rockwell.”
That stuff just doesn’t sell these days.
