Sen. Ted Cruz will oppose President Donald Trumps nominee for the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, Halil Suleyman Sul Ozerden, a major setback for the embattled nomination.
Cruz (R-Texas) has informed the White House and colleagues this week that he will oppose Ozerden, according to three people familiar with the Judiciary Committees internal dynamics. That conservative opposition places in doubt the future of Ozerden, who is a close friend of acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, and whose nomination Mulvaney pushed over the objections of the White House Counsel's office.

Petersen would be another Souter.
Let's get a real conservative on the 5th circuit!
I was all set to get mad at the Ted-ster, but your post makes me want to do a little bit of research. We don’t need another Souter or John Roberts either, for that matter.
Too much (One Way) reaching across the aisle already.
I think it is terrible.
All Trump nominees turned out well so far and I think this would be no different.
Cruz is just trying to make himself important, by doing this.
“Petersen would be another Souter.”
I believe you meant Ozerden.
I don’t have a problem if he’s not confirmed. His record is a bit suspect. Sounds like it’s still up in the air.
I second that. We must not allow a drift toward more moderate (or progressive) Judicial nominees. This week 6 Judicial nominees were confirmed by the Senate. Two were confirmed by voice vote (meaning zero opposition) and two were confirmed with almost no opposition from DemocRATS. Lets not go back to having Republican Judicial nominees become leftist activists after they take office.
Who's Petersen? This article's about Halil Suleyman Ozerden
“Mulvaney, who was a groomsman in Ozerdens 2003 wedding, supported the 53-year-old district court judges nomination long before he joined the White House this winter, according to four sources familiar with the White Houses internal deliberations.”

Doesn’t give us any info on the objections.
Haha. Spell check!
“But his nomination sparked concerns in the White House counsels office in part due to the high rate at which his opinions have been overturned on appeal, particularly by judges held in high esteem in conservative legal circles.”
Let me add that those six nominees were voted on without cloture votes being required by Schumer. Suspicious IMHO.

“The leaders of other groups, including the Susan B. Anthony List and the Family Research Council, echoed her concerns, trashing Ozerden in remarks to Breitbart News. Judge Halil Suleyman Ozerden has utterly failed to protect people of faith against Obamacares assault on religious liberty and conscience rights and does not deserve a promotion to the Fifth Circuit, Susan B. Anthony president Marjorie Dannenfelser said at the time.”
Guy is bad news. Played for Team Kenya on Obamacare and I believe wasn’t a member of the Federalist Society until recently. This nom seems all Mulvaney with a dash of affirmative action tossed in.
and from same article:
Mississippi is as red a state as they come. It sure seems like we could do better than Judge Ozerden there, Carrie Severino, chief counsel and policy director of the Judicial Crisis Network, an organization that has spent millions of dollars in support of Trumps judicial nominees, wrote last August, when Ozerdens nomination was first floated.

Thanks.
That’s the impression I get.
Would still like to see his statements though.
SAt this level, a judge who tries to please his supporters may be OK.

Sparks concerns for me, too.
Ted’s probably right here.
Was it an Islamic wedding?
