Whenever I present my thoughts on marriage, I get a lot of disagreement from married men filled with a lot of generalizations and platitudes, but never any specifics. So, I will ask, what exactly is the upside for YOU in marriage? In what ways are you better off, and not worse off?

I can’t speak of marriage in general, only marriage to my own bride.

First, I am worse off in this way... she is perpetually late :-)

Off the top of my head...

I know true love, acceptance, shared life, support for my goals and dreams, a warm home, great and healthy meals (I’d probably have overdosed on Waffle House by now), a family we created and built, a heart that wants the best for all of us, a complement to each other in strengths and weaknesses, humor, laughter, shared spiritual life, deep connection to each other on multiple levels, and knowing the best person I’ve ever met at a deep level.

Companionship. I’ve been married for 41 years. There have been ups and downs, but we’ve always worked things out. It’s nice to have a partner in life to share things with and make memories with. We are presently in N. MI. on our annual fishing trip. Year 25. Lots of great times.
