White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow asserted President Trumps threat to block trade between private Americans businesses and China, saying he has emergency economic power authority to do so.
Do you believe that the president does have the authority to block private businesses from investing in China? CBS News' Margaret Brennan asked Kudlow on Face the Nation Sunday.
Ultimately, he does have authority, responded Kudlow. Its an emergency economic power authority, he said, adding that Trump is not intending to block trade with China at this time.
Amid an escalating trade war, Trump in a series of angry tweets Friday ordered American companies to immediately start looking for an alternative to China, including bringing our companies HOME and making your products in the USA.

The Constitution forbids the States from political treaties with foreign nations - but not free trade.
“The only authority the President has is that enumerated by the Constitution of the U.S. Unless it is a bona-fide, short-term national emergency, I see nothing in the Constitution that gives Trump power to interfere with buyers and sellers between the U.S. and China. This whole China-Is-The-Reason-For-Our-Economic-Woes thing has gone far enough.”
So you are saying that President Trump’s ability to impose ruinous tariffs on any goods improted into America leaves him powerless? I have some swampland in Florida that I want to sell you.
“The Constitution trumps Congress (Art. VI, Cl 2). Unconstitutional law and legislation is invalid and should be rejected and ignored.”
Perhaps it does but you forget. It is a living constitution, and there are federal laws on the book that grant US Presidents this power, even -gasp!- President Trump.
You are losing this argument so badly that I am feeling a bit bad for piling on.
Even a lefty site like Vox understands the President's power under current law so I will provide a link so that you can educate yourself and quit wasting everyone’s time:

Pay attention.
I’m challenging Trump’s constitutional authority to block American companies from doing business in China unless it is a BONA-FIDE short-term national emergency which this is not.
The mantra of the Left parroted by useful idiots on the Right. Very sad indeed.
Such stupidity has allowed the federal government to amass basically totalitarian power - such power that it is on the books that a Supreme Court Justice asked a federal attorney what are the limits of the power of the feds and the attorney couldn't answer. Very sad indeed.
Our Founders gave us the Constitution which gave us a Free Constitutional Republic with a VERY LIMITED Federal Government. People like you have allow the Delusional Lying Left to steal it away with idiotic phrases like "It's a living Constitution", meaning it is and says whatever some dickhead says it is.
You acquiesce your God-given, blood bought freedom without even a whimper. If there are future generations, they will look back in wonder that people let these tyrants take their freedom so easily.
Of course the Left support expansive federal power. That what they are in business for. Get smart.
If you purport to be a Patriot, then YOU need to educate YOURSELF about the fact that every freaking laws that comes down the Congressional pike is not necessarily constitutional and in fact most are not.
If it is an unconstitutional federal law then the law is invalid and should be nullified and overturned.
When will it be an emergency for you, when ChiCom goons wander the streets of America arresting indebted Americans for involuntary transportation to China to work off their debt?
Like it our not Congress granted broad authority to the Executive Branch to quickly and effectively deal with countries that do not trade fairly with the United States and that is what President Trump is doing.
If you don't like it then go to DU and bitch about it there.
And.......?
Are you saying any company can sell technology and weaponry to anyone and the President and/or Congress can’t stop them...?
When you say “States”, does that give you a picture of and company that sets up business being a “State” in and of itself so it can claim a specific right to screw our national security just...because...?
I know what you’re getting at and , in[principle, i tend to agree with you...but I believe you got the idea in your head and ran a few places with it that it doesn’t quite fit in.
I don’t know what you’re talking about. I only used “States” because you did.
The real overriding issue here as it has been for the last 100+ years, one that seems to get lost in all the gobblygook, is the feds via SCOTUS, the Left, and gullible people on the Right, have taken every opportunity to wrest and contort clauses like the Commerce Clause (intended to give LIMITED power to the feds for particular purposes), to expand its power to where it now reaches totalitarian power. That was NOT the intent of the writers and ratifiers of the Constitution.
We Patriots should be on the side of REDUCING federal power and DISMANTLING the 80+% unconstitutional portion of the federal government, not automatically cheering because our man Trump declares more expansive VERY questionable federal powers over individuals and private companies.
The default and first response should be NO expansion of federal power. Expansion of federal power is the OPPOSITE of what we should be shooting for which is CONTRACTION of federal size and power. Our greatest enemy and threat to our freedoms and way of life is not China, Mexico, or the Man in the Moon, it is our own behemoth $4 trillion mostly unconstitutional federal government which is one election away from destroying our great country and our precious freedoms.
Keep your eyes on the prize. If we’re going to MAGA, we MUST restore our Free Constitutional Republic. That goal reaches beyond Trump or the party spirit. It is the goal of bringing freedom back to America.
Is she the one with the permanent scowl and constipation?
