Yes, they need 18 or 19 Republicans to join with the Democrats. You don’t think there are 19 GOP senators to vote to override? Have you heard ANY Republican Senator speak in support of Trumps Mexico tariff? No, not one

Even IF the Senate cobbled together the votes for an override, they’ll never, ever get 75+ Republicans in the House to make up 2/3s there.
So why would a Senator throw away his career on a certain losing cause?
It takes 2/3 of BOTH houses of Congress to override a POTUS veto, more votes than impeachment.
They don’t have the votes, so they’ll not take a vote.
GOP better start looking for some good republican candidates because there will be some vacancies next year.

The Senators are torn between their own financial interests, the demands of the deep state and doing what is right.
NO, it takes 2/3 votes in each house to override a presidential veto. So there would need to be 67 senators. There are 47 dems and 53 Reps. I think that Manchin and Jones would be disinclined to override Trump’s veto so the GOP would need 22 Rinos rather than 20. However, any RINOs up for election in 2020 would probably not vote to override the veto, so I think the odds in the senate are fairly good for Trump.
Also, the house would need 289 votes to override, and so they would need 54 Republicans to vote to override. I am not sure there are that many House Republicans who would want to commit political suicide, but I could be wrong. All-in-all, I think an override might be difficult to do. Anyway, I hope so. But, I think that it would behoove all of us to at least e-mail our representatives about our position on this — even if your congress critters are democrats.
