I can recommend the best sources that I know; I buy only from 3 places, all have in house labs that test for authenticity, impurities, heavy metals, pesticides etc. Organic or w/c only is what I buy. I will be posting more herbs for the heart today.

Hawthorne Berry

Tissues: Works on plasma, blood, muscle

Systems: Circulatory, digestive

Peroperties: Carminative, stimulant, vasodilator, diuretic, tonic.

Indications: Heart disorders, areriorsclerosis, dysrhythmia, hypertension, palpitations, angine, valvular insufficiency, blood clots, tumors, impacted wastes, debility, gout

Precautions: gastroinestinal ulcers, colitis (if taken as part of a formula with other herbs, may be okay)

Commonly used as a heart tonic, also helps with digestion. Mild cornoary vasodilator, increasing blood supply to the heart muscles. Used for the above conditions and arrhythmia and extra systole. Its tonic action can help to stimulate the heart function in deficient conditions, or depress it in conditions of excess. Can help lower diastolic BP combined with Arjuna, Passionflower and/or Motherwort. 1 t. of the mix of herbs can be taken in a cup of hot water 3x a day, add honey.

Helps pull urin acid from tissues, thus good for gout. Promotes digestion and breaking down of accumulated food masses in the GI tract and even tumors, can help reduce cholesterol. Helps the body to utilize Vit C and contains anti-oxidants properties. Similar to Amalaki in that it helps repair, strengthen and promote the growth of healthy body tissues.

For digestion it be mixed with any of the following: Cumin (ugh), Fennel, Peppermint, Celery seed and Ginger.

I make a blend I call Natural C Plus with Amalaki, Hawthorne, Hibiscus, Rosehips and Orange and Lemon peel. I take 1 heaing t a day.

I will be posting a few more heart herbs, here is one that is in my heart formula, along with Arujuna, Hawthorne, and a couple of others. I ust Jatamansi a lot as it has many uses and there is nothing that I know of like it in western herbalism.

Jatamansi

Tissues: plasma, blood, muscle, nerve and marrow.

Systems: nervous, circulatory, urinary, digestive, respiratory

Properties: nervine, relaxant, antispasmodic, vasodilator, anti-inflammatory, alterative, bitter tonic, diuretic, anticonvulsant.

Indications: anxiety, depression, spasms, convulsions, epilepsy, hypertension AND hypotension, palpitations, arrhythmia, diminished appetite, motion sickness, jetlag, thrombophlebitis, memory loss, hysteria, PMS, insomnia

Jatamansi is a rejuvenative for the nervous system that shares the calming quality of Valerian without creating dullness of body or mind. [I use an Indian variety of Valerian called Tagar, that is less dulling and works very well.] It has affinities to the mind, nerves, muscles, heart, liver and GI tract. Its grounding effect on mobile, erratic qualtiies make it useful in the treatment of anxiety, spasms, tremors, convulsions and even epilepsy.

It helps to cool and pacify the mind, improve memory and concentration, and enhance awareness. [This is NOT any kind of narcotic or strong drug type herb, totally safe, non-habit forming and very effective. I always have at least 3 pounds on hand as it is not easy to find.]

It is useful for hyperactivity and the inability to focus, so helpful for children labeled ADD/ADHD. It can be used with other herbs such as Ashwagandha, Shankpushpi, Gingko, Bacopa, Gotu Kola and Vacha.

Helps to relax the heart muscles, and helps normalize BP, whether too high or too low, and for arrhythmia and palpitations, good combined with Ashwagandha.

Being antispasmodic, Jatamansi can help with PMS, menstrual pain or other types of dysmenhoria, menopausal symptoms (especially in combination with Shatavari), and generalizes muscle and nervous tenstion.

I use it in formulas for stress, anxiety, memory or lack of focus difficulty, heart function, insomnia and pain.
