Oh no, that is not good news. I have a friend who has asthma and when she gets a respiratory virus, usually has to take prednisone, definitely has some drawbacks but breathing is vital.

I will think and look around and post more tomorrow (plus I want to add to things that help reduce stress).

First, do your lungs have liquid in them? Is your cough productive or dry?

A few things to try:

Steam inhalations with EOs like Eucalyptus.

If you have strong fragance articles in your house, try to minimize/change products. They are not good for the lungs at all.

Drink only hot fluids and eat only hot foods. Cold coagulates whatever is in the lungs.

I can’t remember if you were one that tried using pippali - aka long pepper. It is one of the best herbs for lung function and clearning out lungs.I have used it many times. If you can get some, I have posted how to make medicated milk with it, and I can post again. I have no clue why Amazon sometimes has these horrible long urls.

If you can order lomatium extract, it is excellent not just for coughs but is also anti-viral and helps clear the lungs. It was used by Natives in Nevada during the killer flu of 1918 and they did not die or get as sick as the whites.

I know that codeine cough syrup helped me when I had nonstop coughing from some kind of flu, it was making my upper chest swell and felt dangersou. I did use for a while but prefer to avoid. It is prescription, have you tried that?

If you can do some breathing excercises, however minimally, this will likely help lung function. No need for sitting on the floor, a straight back chair is fine.

Let me know if any of these help.

It had some of the long pepper but it got lost in our recent move, i have been using red pepperin broth. It helps somewhat.

I will look into lomatium. I also want to look into SwisCris for inhaling.

I have been boiling peppermint with lemons. That seems to help a little.

My cough was very productive at first but seems to be getting less productive now.

All the while this was happening i had surgery to repair 4 hernias. I couldn’t urinate after surgery so they put in a catheter and addmitted me for 2 nights. They discharged me me with the catheter and didn’t remove it for 30 days. I finally went to the ED when i started passing clots. I ended up spending 2 nights again in the hospital. I ended up with a bad infection.

Life has pretty much been a nightmare since the end of Nov.

Now I’m waiting for a CT scan in April because I had a Pet scan 2 months that was inclusive for lung cancer. If the nodules have grown they will biopsy them.

The bright side, I’ve lost 25 pounds.

If anyone prays, I would appricate prayers.

I favor oregano oil over eucalyptus, and not just because it makes me think of furniture polish. Oregano oil is an unfriendly pathogen genocider. I've never seen a better silver bullet for prevention except maybe Xlear. And I've certainly never seen anything that will nip an already acquired respiratory infection in the bud like oregano oil.

Now, when LJ says steam inhalation I gather it's something close to "huffing". What you do is get a barely simmering pot with about 1/4 inch of water in it that your face will sort of fit over. I like a 4 cup sauce pan. Barely simmering means just when you start to see tiny bubbles in the pot or right when you can start to see wisps of steam. You do not want this real hot because 1) you waste your oil to evaporation fast, and B) said quick evaporation will cause discomfort. These oils are harsh when breathed into your throat and sinuses.

Now that you have a pot of water simmering, place 2 or 3 drops in the water. Put your face over the steam and SLOWLY breathe in. Alternate between sinus and tracheal breathing. Oregano is harsh, so go slow and learn how YOU can pull in as much evaporating oil into your respiratory tract as you can. You'll get good at it, but you WILL cough when learning. Like I said, it's harsh but worth it. Repeat will more drops of oil once you can't smell the oil in the pot.

You want to do the above protocol once you KNOW you have something to lessen the duration, or when you SUSPECT you might have something to nip it in the bud. Everyone knows their trigger symptoms that they may have caught something. For me it's a scratchy throat and watery ears. Better safe than sorry I say.

LJ I've tried other oils to lessen the harness of the oregano oil to no avail. Any tips?
