Here are a few more suggestions for supporting general vitality, supporting muscle tissue health, and good for as maintenance herbs for anyone dealing with recovering from illness or injury, chronic conditions or general debility, or “I’m not as young as I used to be” syndrome. (hahaha). I have posted about these herbs before on the thread but I don’t mind doing again. Not listing everything about these herbs, mostly properties helpful for strength, vitality, recuperation from illness or injury, or as maintenance for supporting health.
Ashwagandha
Rejuvenative, tonic, aphrodisiac (strengthens function, not agitating), nervine, sedative, analgesic, anabolic (building), anti-inflammatory, immunomodulator, adaptogen
Uses
Fatigue, general debility, tissue deficiency, old age, senility, sciatica, rheumatism, infertility, impotence, anxiety, MS, stress factors, overwork, heart conditions
A nutritive tonic, enhances the toine and strength of muscles, nourishes bone, marrow and nervous tissues. Excellent as a male reproductive tonic. Balances and regulates the immune system and replenishes energy from general stress, overwork, old age, or debilitating and wasting diseases, calms and nourishes the nervous system. Can be taken as a hot tea or milk decoction before bed. It promotes mental clarity, concentration and memory (among other herbs).
Helpful in neurological conditions such as rheumatism, Parkinsons, muscular dystrophy, MS etc, it pacifies the muscles and nervous system.
Bala
Rejuvenative, alterative, reduces fever, anticonvulsant, nervine, aphrodisiac (as above), stimulant (means improves bodily functions, not a drug), cardiac tonic
Uses:
Physical and mental debility, chronic fatigue, muscle atrophy, Parkinsons, spasms, cramps, tremors, stroke paralysis, Bell’s palsy, nervous diseases, convalesence.
In Sanskrit Bala means “strength”, this herb is one of the best rejuvenative tonis. Bala nourishes all bodily tissues, espcially the plasma, muscle, nerve, marrow and reproductive tissues, and helps to correct disorders relating to deficiency and weakness of the body and mind. It is commonly used for chronic fatigue, general debility, muscle atroply, neurological diseases, in convalesence and for the elderly. Helsps with maintaining normal muscle tone and coordination and relieve cramping.
Improves cardiac function with stimunant and tonic properties, increasing cardiac output with less risk of riasing the blood pressure or heart rate. Caution should be taken if an individual has hypertension.
Helps strengthen bones, used in treating osteoporosis, and osteorarthritis and is anti-inflammatory. Bala promotes mental energy and stability, especially when combined with other herbs such as ashwaganda and others.
