I think the point lurk was making was that starving people will do things they would never consider doing when their bellies were full.
That is largely indisputable, and tales of cannibalism among shipwreck survivors backs that up.
I do think there is a difference, though: Eating a dead baby because you are afloat in a lifeboat is quite different than giving the go-ahead to kill them simply because their head hasn’t gone far enough down the birth canal to appear outside.
I think it is more of a “boiling a frog by putting in in cold water and heating slowly” thing.
Once one has seen the cliff where Courage breaks
And the depths where one can fall
It is not a pretty sight
On that path there be Demons
It is by Grace that we have hope
Civilization allows us many luxuries.
Pray that we never know what it’s like to be without civilization, because let me tell you, mankind is a monster.
