I go to a Baptist church in Scranton. Anyone who believes in the slaughter of human beings in the womb has torn up his or her Christianity card, in my view. To my knowledge, not one of us believes in this savagery.

It is savagery. I agree 100%. It is morally barbaric. I personally favor formal excommunication would be used more often today. Most Bishops today will not excommunicate a layperson. Excommunications today are only used in cases of theological challenges to Doctrine or Authority by priests or other Bishops. So I disagree with the approach used by the American Hierarchy, very few Bishops to my knowledge have come out and said they would excommunicate Cuomo. Unfortunately, they are not the Cardinal Archbishop of New York who has immediate pastoral jurisdiction over Cuomo.

Still, from a Catholic theological perspective, the Sacrament of Baptism did leave a spiritual indelible mark on Cuomo’s soul, as it does for anyone baptized. Has his militant abortion policies covered or tainted that mark with sin, in my view, yes. But the mark is still there, repentance is what restores it back into a state of Grace.
