NO ONE can depend on the police in an emergency.
If some one is breaking in to your home or mugging you or is raping you the police are not going to get there in time to save you or stop the crime.
The police typically show up after the fact to take a report and if you’re lucky investigate the crime.
For the most part, dealing with an emergency is not what the police are about.
If you have a real emergency, you had better give the police a call if you can and then set about dealing with it yourself. The police will show up in few minutes to write a report about it.
