Protests in their 10th week. China is reported to have moved a substantial number of police with armored vehicles to a town across the bay. Given the compact urban terrain heavier armor would not be practical. China is getting forces in position. They could strike within a week.

China media says Hong Kong protesters are ‘asking for self-destruction’ as military assembles nearby

On Monday, Chinese officials focused on what they described as “deranged acts” by the protesters, including throwing gasoline bombs, saying they marked the emergence of terrorism in the Chinese city.

China’s media is sending a clear signal to the protesters.
On Monday afternoon, Chinese state-owned English tabloid the Global Times tweeted a video showing the People’s Armed Police assembling in Shenzhen, a city bordering Hong Kong, about a 1.5 hour- drive away.

The People’s Daily, the official newspaper of China’s Communist Party, posted on Chinese social media a statement saying the People’s Armed Police are in Shenzhen prepared to handle “riots, disturbance, major violence and crime and terrorism-related social security issues.”

In a Tuesday social media post from the Global Times‘ Chinese edition, the outlet said:

“if Hong Kong rioters cannot read the signal of having armed police gathering in Shenzhen, then they are asking for self-destruction,” according to a CNBC translation.

Stuart said this act would be highly inflammatory to those in power.

Israel/Iran/Hezbollah
Iran and Hezbollah leadership is showing increasing irritation over Israel’s ability to continually strike asset in both Syria and Iraq. It seemed that they were preparing to up the ante via a drone attack (probably similar to Iran-supported Houthi movement in Yemen. That attack has caused a great deal of chest beating.

Parallel to this are the reports of Israeli drones being shot down over Lebanon with alleged explosives. Lebanon has converted into essentially a Hezbollah controlled country and the government is threatening war against Israel for violating air space. Some have noted that they are trying to establish a case for war with Israel.

Israel has responded stating that any Lebanese-originating attacks by anyone would result in disproportional response. Israel has taken some minor measures along the border such as limiting traffic within 5 KM of the Lebanon border and moving some Iron Dome assets north.

Iran/Hezbollah aggressiveness may be driven by two factors.
1. Heavy losses and ineffectiveness against Israel
2. Financial stress caused by the US embargo. s
For either/both cases an extended open attack against Israel could be disastrous for them. Israel keeps hitting logistical bases in Syria and Iraq. Netanyahu feels he has a freer hand to deal with them with the US watching his back.
We will have to see just how far they are willing to push it.

Reflecting A lot of Americans have become so insulated from reality that they imagine that America can suffer defeat without any inconvenience to themselves.

Do you remember? I remember All of These:

1. In 1968, Bobby Kennedy was shot and killed by a Muslim male.
2. In 1972 at the Munich Olympics, athletes were kidnapped and massacred by Muslim males.
3. In 1972 a Pan Am 747 was hijacked and eventually diverted to Cairo where a fuse was lit on final approach, it was blown up shortly after landing by Muslim males.
4. In 1973 a Pan Am 707 was destroyed in Rome , with 33 people killed, when it was attacked with grenades by Muslim males.
5. In 1979, the US embassy in Iran was taken over by Muslim males.
6. During the 1980’s a number of Americans were kidnapped in Lebanon by Muslim males.
7. In 1983, the US Marine barracks in Beirut was blown up by Muslim males.
8. In 1985, the cruise ship Achille Lauro was hijacked and a 70 year old American passenger was murdered and thrown overboard in his wheelchair by Muslim males.

No, I really don’t see a pattern here to justify profiling, do you? /s So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly fanatics intent on killing us, airport security screeners will no longer be allowed to profile certain people.

Instead, they must conduct random searches of
80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret agents who are members of the President’s security detail, 85-year old’s, Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal of Honor winner and former Governor Joe Foss, BUT leave Muslim Males alone lest airport security be guilty of profiling.

Iran/Hezbollah/Israel -

Things are warming up further. Hezbollah has announced that they will conduct “calculated strike” against its Israel but arranged in a way which wouldn’t lead to a war. As I mentioned in my previous post, Hezbollah is hurting financially and manpower wise from Syrian involvement. Iran hasn’t been able to fund/supply them without Israeli interdiction. So they want to poke the bear. . .

Israel has touted their intelligence on Hezbollah/Iran. Israel has recently taken measures that indicate that they expect Hezbollah to act within the next few days. Road travel within 5 Km of the border is restricted and today the airspace within 6 km of the Lebanese border has been restricted. Israeli drones reported flying almost continually over southern Lebanon.

Netanyahu has warned that if Hezbollah gets froggy they will be slapped down hard.

Wild card - What will Hamas do if things go kinetic up north? Uncertain if at this time they would launch supporting rocket fire for a second front. My guess is that elements within Hamas will launch but that since Israel has warned Hezbollah that the gloves will be coming off in the north, Gaza would be severely hammered.

Have the American people completely lost their Minds, or just their Power of Reason?

Many of the politicians have been bribed/blackmailed, likely by Saudi Arabia or their allies, and in a just world, would have long ago been lawfully executed for treason.

Iran / Israel
Iran backed Hezbollah launched AT rockets at Israeli positions and vehicles over the weekend - the “calculated strike” that they were warning about. Apparently the attacks were ineffective. Israel remains on elevated alert for more of the same along the border.

Lebanon called for international help after Israel struck back into Lebanese territory after the Hezbollah attacks.

Iran is reportedly in the process of constructing a very large military base in Syria. expect Israeli bombing in the future.

Hong Kong
After three months of protests Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam on Wednesday announced the formal withdrawal of a controversial extradition bill. This is unlikely to put very much of a damper on the continuation of protests because she refuses to address police abuse and undocumented arrests, among other demands. The fact that she backed down on the extradition bill in the face of mainland Chinese force buildup across from HK is shocking to say the least. Lam was ‘elected’ by a select committee of elites in HK and not the population of HK - a serious sticking point to citizens and one of those non-negotiable items (China would allow democracy - period).

India/Pakistan
Standard level of cross border sniping and sporatic artillery. India’s removal of special rights for two border territories has gone relatively peacefully.

Iran/Hezbollah/Israel
Ongoing analysis of Israel’s release of information regarding Iran’s Syrian base and Hezbollah’s “precision missile” factory in Lebanon, suggests that Israel is positioning itself to take those sites out unless Lebanon and Syria/Russia don’t pressure them to do it first. I am anticipating an extended period of cat and mouse, pretty much as we’ve seen so far. Israel will strike Iranian/Hezbollah related sites in Syria and even Iraq to retard and damage their efforts to concentrate firepower on Israel. In doing so, they will continue to attrite knowledgeable personnel and leadership of both elements as well as driving up costs for Iran (who’s budget is way in the red due to sanctions).

On a related point, Iran announced that it is discarding all agreements in regards to nuclear development. This will involve a significant cash output to an already broke govt.

In the Persian gulf - situation is static and still tense. other countries have sent war ships to secure passage of their cargo ships.

HK - Govt states no more reasons to protest and will not negotiate anything further at this time.
N Korea - RUMINT that a new underground facility is being constructed

Weekend recap and view forward

Israel/Hezbollah
Qods force backed Hezbollah elements fired rockets towards Israel from a Damascus suburb over the weekend. none of the rockets reached Israel. in Lebanon Hezbollah claimed to have shot down an Israeli drone - in this case a small, 6 rotor model. Rhetoric from Hezbollah in Lebanon has quieted somewhat. they are in a poor position to challenge Israel on a man-power basis, given commitments in Syria. they still have abundant rocket capability, however, Israel indicates that wont stop the bombing of the ages is any are launched. Lebanon’s govt (Hezbollah friendly) is already calling out for international intervention to keep Israel from bombing it to smithereens in the event of a Hezbollah attack. I expect this to stay on a slow simmer.

Iran/Israel
Besides Hezbollah activity, iran has announced full on uranium enrichment program, complete with new centerfuges capable of higher concentrations of uranium. Currently they have announced passing the 20% mark and are utilizing uranium gas to enrich the process.

Netanyahu will be making an announcement today on Israel’s response to this development. it will be interesting to see just what line in the sand he will draw. Israel’s response to Iranian nuclear development will be the critical issue of the next several months.

Iran/Persian gulf
Apart from capturing a small Philippines tanker, Iran has largely been deterred from other adventurism by US, British and other allied military vessels. I suspect that burning the candle on three ends (Syria/Hezbollah support; nuclear development and gulf operations) are taxing the finances and operations capability. as such, support has been directed away from the gulf to these other endeavors. But if the forces there have a window of opportunity, expect them to take it if they perceive a chance at success.

Israel/Iran
Netanyahu’s announcement concerned the identification of a secret Iranian nuclear facility near the city of Abadeh. He stated that the facility was completely “wiped out” upon discovery.
Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with Putin later today IIRC.
