See, unlike other Presidents, Trump has an actual real calculus: When does our being there outweigh the actual support we're providing to taking territory AWAY FROM ISIS? And according to Trump's calculus, we've PASSED that point.......
The usual neocon infantilzing of Middle Easter countries continues. Unless the US is there 'leading the way' it's all gonna turn to crap. Well this isn't the Middle East of the 1990's. The GCC is running the show, we're back up. And we're no longer needed.
After losing battle after battle - in which 50,000 Iraqi soldiers fled in the face of 500 ISIS fighters - there was a very brief pause. From that point on the Iraqi army NEVER LOST ANOTHER BATTLE TO ISIS. Wictor made a compelling case as to what happened during that pause.
One of the best reasons to follow Wictor was to learn about the GCC and what the Saudis did after realizing back in 2009 Obama WASN'T going to help them contain/overthrow a nuclear Iran. And they had no confidence the NEXT US President was gonna be of any more help than Obama.
They realized THEY would have to do the heavy lifting themselves. They modernized their armies & studied commando tactics, especially those first forumlated by Ord Wingate on MASS MILITARY INFILTRATION TECHNIQUES.
GCC member countries have highly trained commando units now outfitted with top of the line weapons. They go in DISGUISED AS LOCALS. They *don't* wear Saudi or UAE uniforms, they wear Iraqi or Lebanese army uniforms, for instance.
Or they even disguise themselves as ISIS fighters and just go WALKING RIGHT INTO THE ENEMY CAMP. Nobody knows who is who, which is the point. So while the uniformed GCC armies are fighting in some places, there's also a very clandestine shadow op war going on.
But this neocon philosophy that the 'simple' people of the Middle East can't solve their own problems, we need to not only go there, but stay there indefinitley to 'lead the way' and show them how it's done doesn't take into account the massive shifts in the region recently.
This is the reason many neocons are determined to sabotage the Trump arms deal with Saudi Arabia. They INSIST on a paternal relationship with Saudi Arabia where we keep them far behind us militarily so we have to go riding to their rescue in case of trouble, such as with Iran.
