Up here in Canada “essential” workers are those more urgently needed. For instance, ambulance drivers, nurses, teachers, fire fighters, etc. are “essential services”. People who work in offices, say doing the filing or filling out forms, although their jobs must be done, it’s not going to effect the public negatively for quite awhile if they don’t go to work.

I think people are confusing nonessential with unnecessary. The essential services can be life-threatening if withdrawn....except the teachers. They are essential services because everyone has to go to work and can’t stay home with their kids.

That was a great description Judy, thanks for clarifying. I think when we think of government workers here, we think they are all unnecessary! Maybe undeserving is a better term.
