Treason involves an external enemy. I think sedition.. which is conspiring or encouraging overthrow of the government is probably a more accurate charge. But, he’s right in that it should be considered as very serious.

You are absolutely correct. I wish Trump and his acolytes would restrict their use of the word “treason” to its definition in the Constitution.
There is a reason that the Constitution has a narrow and explicit definition for treason and strict evidentiary requirements to prove treason.
Team Clinton and Team Obama committed innumerable crimes, but only a few are guilty of treason and such cases would be exceeding difficult to prove. Maybe Bill’s selling missile technology to China back in the 90s, but it would be impossible to get the necessary evidence. Uranium One was a criminal conspiracy, but there’s inadequate evidence to prove treason.
Would an external foreign power work? "Enemy" is a subjective term... what about the Brits - working with Russians? Does that qualify?

Every possible enemy this country has or ever could have was dumping mass amounts of money into the Clinton Foundation, purchasing favors in advance of her taking the POTUS.
