100% right on everything. Long Island City used to be an industrial wasteland. Of course, since no one but the mega rich can afford Manhattan, development and gentrification spread and LI City is just the latest. The old timers that were/are able to stick around will soon be priced out. To go where, since everything is so expensive, no one knows.

Someone commented a few days ago, on a different thread, that Amazon will pay LESS in taxes if they meet certain benchmarks. They didn’t expand, but that seems to me like, if they make a certain amount of money, then they pay less in taxes. On top of all the tax breaks/incentives they’re already getting. Seems to me like someone that is worth $150 billion wouldn’t have to worry much, about much, considering he could probably buy up half of Queens.

But hey, LI City will soon be home to about 25,000 liberal hipsters. Be a great time to open a sh*tty craft micro brewery in the area, and a store that sells skinny jeans and flannel shirts.

There will be a lot of publicity given to the “victims” as they are displaced through gentrification; anyone with a decent salary at the HQ isn’t going to want next to gibsmedats and thugs. The cattle cars are coming for them...
