Fifty years ago, an older woman my family knew was in a public place when a robbery took place at gunpoint. The crime was deemed Federal because the perp crossed state lines in his getaway. The woman, who was called as a witness, had never done anything in her life as a housewife with other than church, PTA, and parttime clerical work at a small locally-owned hardware store. Yet the prosecution arrived with an FBI folder several inches thick about her. And that was then, when everything was done by hand.
