You should qualify for a special enrollment period. You should be able to pick from several plans and might qualify for a subsidy. You need to do this within 60 days of being laid off.

Thanks, but, we don’t want to go to healthcare.gov. We prefer to do this privately. We don’t want any subsidies. And with no income we will be forced into medicaid. And we ain’t going there.
