YOUR great grandparents (AND mine) were not hard-working AMERICANS. They were people who LEGALLY fled their home countries seeking a better life for themselves and those to follow.
These people worked hard and soon BECAME Americans while melding their heritage into their Americansim. They saw to it that their children and then grandchildren were Americans, proud and grateful to be Americans, even while acknowledging their family roots.
It was our grandparents who reared the GREATEST GENERATION, the one that saved this planet as terrible cost. Today, the descendants of those immigrants are Americans to their core.

Mine were Scottish, Dutch and native Americans, Chucky! My great grandmother on my mom’s side was half Meskwaki. I’m going to venture a guess that her family were not illegal immigrants, or gang members.
