This is from memory but it seems the name of it was Redondo Heights, Redondo Palisades, or some such thing.

Not really proof of the assertion, but odd that it would be made in a situation like this where there's so much that doesn't add up, like the butch, frankly more masculine than he is, Gonzalez girl being his cousin.
