Norways stunning medal haul has been the talk of the Olympics and with 13 golds and three days of competition left, they could beat the record of 14 by one country at a single Winter Games.
... We have free health care, we have free schools, you can have a PhD without paying anything, you just have to pay for food and shelter and the government will pay for everything else, the 52-year-old added.
That means that we have a pool of people that is quite well educated, have a good health standard and do not have a high level of anxiety for life so they can actually choose which direction they want to develop in.
Some of them choose sports and we are lucky that they choose sports and then we really try to take care of them from when they are kids to when theyre finished as top athletes.

“It is common practice in Norway to occasionally use asthma medicine in major ailments in the respiratory system... even where the diagnosis of asthma is not specific,”
They can thank the North Sea for giving them all that oil.

The quotes sound eerily eugenicist...
And our tax rate is only...
So bragging at length about the Norwegian welfare state is “humble”?
Norway is one of the few countries outside of the Middle East that has a gigantic "Oil Dollars to Population Ratio" and can afford the best trainers, the best local facilities, the best electronic analysis / body-part-tracking equipment, unlimited travel to the best facilities worldwide, and much more.
See my recent post here about their oil wealth - http://freerepublic.com/focus/news/3624953/posts?page=89#89
At least they're not bankrupting their populace to train the world's best athletes, as E Germany and the USSR did during the Cold War.
Yeah?
And you speak Russian or German without us.
Ante up...pussies....
... We have free health care, we have free schools, you can have a PhD without paying anything,”
Like many many other countries. So those are NOT the reasons of the Norvegian medal haul.
The real reasons are lot of snow, lot of white people, lot of oil, lot of natural gas, all too politically incorrect to even mention.
Logic and facts don’t count when the lying media can push its socialistic narrative.
“At least they’re not bankrupting their populace to train the world’s best athletes,”
Compared to what the USSR spent on armaments, sports were a drop in the bucket.
If you were an Olympic gold medalist you got a crappy apartment, a tiny refrigerator, maybe an old car, and you could spend your widow’s mite in special stores. Start losing, and it all went away.
For many athletes, extra gear to be sold or traded for blue jeans at international meets was their principal income stream...such as it was.
From Wikipedia: In 2011, Norway was the eighth largest crude oil exporter in the world (at 78Mt), and the 9th largest exporter of refined oil (at 86Mt). It was also the world’s third largest natural gas exporter (at 99bcm), having significant gas reserves in the North Sea
Norway also exports electric from their hydroelectric plants.
All of this from a country of less then 6 million people.
Dominant Norway proud but humble amid gold rush
sorry dingbats, “proud” and “humble” are diametrically opposed.
Ahhhh chit..(just when I was getting used to Silje Norendal)
That is near the same population of Puerto Ricans in the world. But somehow, you don’t see Puerto Rico with that kind of wealth.
So I wonder what could be the difference?
There is very little personal or government corruption in Norway.
It must be nice to have a country with relatively few people sit on huge oil reserves. In such an instance “eventually the money runs out” weakness of socialism takes a lot longer to materialize.
I think it is great that Norway won a lot of medals.
But I won’t be lectured about their great lifestyle by a socialist turd like Norways chef de mission Tore Oevreboe.
They went belly up to the Nazis in WWI, and many people collaborated with the Nazis, fought with the Nazis, and they even coined a new phrase known throughout the world to describe a traitor...a Quisling...after a Norwegian who bent over backwards to work with the Nazis.
They are a nearly ethnically homogeneous country of five million people with a high standard of living, with nearly half of their exports related to oil production.
They aren’t any kind of model to follow.
