Norways stunning medal haul has been the talk of the Olympics and with 13 golds and three days of competition left, they could beat the record of 14 by one country at a single Winter Games.
... We have free health care, we have free schools, you can have a PhD without paying anything, you just have to pay for food and shelter and the government will pay for everything else, the 52-year-old added.
That means that we have a pool of people that is quite well educated, have a good health standard and do not have a high level of anxiety for life so they can actually choose which direction they want to develop in.
Some of them choose sports and we are lucky that they choose sports and then we really try to take care of them from when they are kids to when theyre finished as top athletes.

During World War II, the Norwegian Legion was formed by the Waffen-SS on 29 June 1941 in German-occupied Norway.
Right.
I am not going to dwell on that, but their socialist cradle to grave claptrap works when you have something like oil revenues to apply to it and only five million people to spread that around to.
It makes me angry to hear that BS from them. Glad it works for you guys, but as another poster implied, Please try not to be boastful and humble in the same sentence.
Puerto Rico doesn’t have any petroleum reserves to access.
Also, as another poster pointed out, there may be a difference in the “public/private corruption” issue.
In Puerto Rico, corruption is likely a game everyone wants to (and tries to) get in on or understands they have to play to. I don’t doubt Denmark has their corruption too.
Of course, perhaps their major perk was they had opportunities to defect to the West.
And maybe we should give the old USSR a posthumous Gold Medal for "celebrating diversity" sexually speaking, decades before the West did. Remember those XXY chromosome wo-men who were on their women's track teams? They were told to disguise their voices, and had to secretly shave off body hair constantly. Talk about true believers in "gender fluidity". Har!
Speaking of "perks for the losers," Wasn't it Saddam who threw his entire losing national soccer team into a wood chipper? Or was that just an urban myth?
I think you are too tough on Norway.
I can accept your assessment, you are probably right.
I didn’t like the lecture was all. I simply didn’t think the underpinnings of his lecture were valid, nor did I think he had the moral standing to lecture the USA, which is what he appeared to me to be doing.
“I hadn’t heard what happened to them *after* their days as an Olympian were over.”
I heard from Soviet athletes and defectors. Remember Boris Onischenko who cheated in the pentathlon in the Montreal Games in 1976? I asked this Russian defector I knew, who also knew Onischenko, why he did it.
He said that Onischenko was losing it as he aged, and he didn’t want to lose the crappy apartment, the car, the refrigerator, and the other pathetic emoluments that went with winning.
“For example, I read of the USSR men’s hockey team’s perks.”
I don’t doubt that they got perks, particularly sexual services, but remember, nothing that the USSR said could be believed in not the slightest particular.
“Of course, perhaps their major perk was they had opportunities to defect to the West.”
You got that right. I knew one guy who swam a good portion of the Black Sea to get out.
“Remember those XXY chromosome wo-men who were on their women’s track teams?”
What about the XY “women” they had lifting weights?
“Speaking of “perks for the losers,” Wasn’t it Saddam who threw his entire losing national soccer team into a wood chipper? Or was that just an urban myth?”
Sounds like something he would do, but I don’t really know.
And if it were not for a certain nation that spends lot on defense (but not comparatively as much as liberals would have us believe), Norway might be part of the German or Soviet empire.
