I don't hunt wild pigs on any kind of a regular basis, but I have run across them. If I decided to take up pig hunting as a hobby or vocation I think I would consider springing for an M1 with high capacity mags, or maybe even an AR platform in .30-06. A company called Noreen either makes, or at any rate used to make, a very nice .30-06 AR for less than $2,000.
Maybe it'd be overkill, and I'd certainly spend a lot more money on ammo than those who use the standard AR, but dying at the tusks/hooves of a wounded, angrier-then-usual, wild hog is not on my bucket list.
An AR-10 in .308 might be just what the doctor ordered for you.
A friend hunts pigs for pay here in by helicopter in central Texas. Either for farmers wanting them gone or wealthy types who have money to burn and want to pretend they are Air Cav for a couple of hours.
When hunting pigs for farmers, its is exclusively AR-15s shooting expanding round 5.56. You get on a herd and put rounds on the pigs. These pigs wipe out freshly planted corn crops overnight. Very costly for the farmers.
By the way, the AR you mentioned? 308 not 30/06. They dont make one in 30/06.
I’ve had my eye on one of these:

Best link I could find in a snap.
I have a Mini-30 in 7.62X39 Hollow point with a couple of 30 round mags.
A GREAT hawg tool!
