How many of those Eastern Block nations willingly asked to join the USSR at the end of WWII. Quite possibly it was the presence of thousands of Soviet solders and hundreds of Soviet tanks within their borders that convinced them to join the USSR. Considerably different circumstances than Mississippi or Texas asking for admission as a state to the Union.
