Today’s Campaign Update (Because The Campaign Never Ends)
NBC joined the Alinskyite demonization of House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes in earnest on Saturday with a stunningly illogical piece from a University of Texas law professor named Steve Vladeck. NBC’s web minions label the opinion piece a “Hot Take,” but what it really is is an unintentionally hilarious hot mess.
Vladeck’s thesis is that FBI Director Christopher Wray simply must – must, I say – resign over the release of what Vladeck calls the “Nunes Memo” because, well, I’ll let him tell you in this wonderfully illogical passage: “Wray shouldn’t resign because he himself has been slighted, or because he has been ordered to do something he believes to be unlawful or immoral; he should resign because of the institutional affront that the release of the memo reflects — a partisan political assault on the apolitical work in which tens of thousands of men and women are engaged on a daily basis.”
A few things about this. First, note that Vladeck singles out a discrete target for demonization, the first principle of a leftist media assault based on Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals. The target for Vladeck, Democrats and everyone in the fake news media is exclusively Nunes – they refuse to note that the memo was in fact co-authored by South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy, obviously because Gowdy spent 7 years as a federal prosecutor and a decade as a district attorney prior to running for congress. They single out Nunes because his background in the real world is in agriculture (or, as Joe Scarborough puts it, he’s just “a farmer”) and thus, in their mind, a much easier target. This of course ignores the reality that few people outside of the big media centers in Washington, New York and California – or big university campuses – see anything wrong with being a farmer, a reflection of typical elite liberal myopia.
Second, note how a memo that lays out a compelling, fact-based case documenting a conspiracy by about half a dozen high-ranking individuals at Barack Obama’s FBI and Justice Department has suddenly expanded to an assault on “tens of thousands of men and women” working at the FBI and DOJ in the Trump Administration. What a breathtaking leap of illogic, coming as it does from someone who is presumably responsible for educating young minds. Third, note how conveniently Vladeck’s thesis plays off of the current CNN-generated fake news narrative that Wray allegedly threatened to tender his resignation if the FISA Abuse Memo was released. Vladeck’s piece is obviously intended to perpetuate that narrative and also to provide a logical basis for its happening.
Finally, note that Vladeck refuses to point out that FBI officials, Wray included, had more than a week to review the memo and weigh in with any objections to factual errors they saw in it, and did not identify any such factual errors at all. The only objections raised by the FBI had to do with the inclusion of names in it, and what turned out to be a completely false allegation that the memo would compromise sources and methods.
Vladeck’s piece also contains this declarative sentence: “And importantly, this agency’s credibility and integrity are cornerstones of our legal system.” Well, ok, let’s concede that. But credibility and integrity are things that must be earned, not just assumed without critical thought. The fact of the matter at hand is that bad actors like Andrew McCabe, James Comey, James Baker and Peter Strzok have done an incredible amount of damage to the FBI’s credibility and integrity. This is simply undeniable: All four named above have already been fired or reassigned due to their bad actions, three of them since Director Wray assumed his job. In order for the Bureau to regain said credibility and integrity, it is vitally important that those bad actors and others be clearly identified to the public and held accountable. Which is the very point of what Vladek dismissively refers to as the “Nunes Memo.”
Meanwhile, a former CIA counter-terrorism guy named Phil Mudd, in an appearance on #fakenews CNN, had this to say about the “apolitical work” engaged in by the rank and file of the FBI: “The president is talking about basically corruption at the FBI today, but we oppose the leadership,” he said. “The workforce is going to look at this and say, this is an attack on our ability to conduct an investigation with integrity… So, the FBI people — I’m going to tell you are ticked, and they’re going to be saying, I guarantee it, you think you could push us off this because you can try to intimidate the director, you’d better think again, Mr. President. You’ve been around for 13 months; we’ve been around since 1908. I know how this game is going to be played, and we’re going to win.”
So, Mr. Mudd thinks the rank and file at the FBI have such a high degree of personal and professional integrity that they’ll take a perceived slight as an excuse to take time out from whatever non-political work in which they’re currently engaged to threaten the President of the United States. If Mudd is right (which he isn’t, by the way), then we don’t need a selective reorganization to clean out the bad actors at the FBI, we need to just burn the entire place to the ground and start all over again.
With ‘defenders’ like Mudd and Vladeck, the FBI hardly even needs critics. And you have to wonder what these two logically-deficient analysts will have to say when, just a few weeks from now, the Justice Department’s Inspector General – who was put in his job by Barack Obama – issues the final report of findings from his year-long investigation of wrongdoing within the FBI and DOJ? Will Mudd then say everybody at the FBI AND DOJ is now going to threaten President Trump? Will Vladeck dummy up another 800 word case detailing why Jeff Sessions MUST resign? I can hardly wait to find out. I’m betting President Trump feels the same way.

Director Wray probably should resign, not over release of the memo, but rather for his reluctance to support the ongoing investigation, and eventual arrest and prosecution, of the FBI’s upper-echelon miscreants!
Not only is this statement arrogant, it borders on sedition. It shows a mindset which says the FBI thinks it is unaccountable to anyone.
I've heard this song before. The Pretorian Guard of Ancient Rome followed the same path. They descended in depravity to the point where they killed one Emperor because he didn't pay them a sufficient bribe, and then turned around and auctioned off the Emperorship to the highest bidder.
It shows us exactly what they are doing, but they are trying to deny that this is how they have been operating.
I think we need to hold off on condemning Wray. We don’t know everything that is going on and we probably won’t for another couple of weeks.

INCREDIBLE. I’m sure the Left wasn’t saying the same about Nixon’s men after they were caught in Watergate.
But note the TACTIC: Hit HARD and no matter how stupid it sounds to us, many people, if not most people, will believe it, because they WANT to believe it - and the people he’s targeting will believe it, every last one. Very effective tactic by the Left.
Likewise, has ANY Leftist admitted he was wrong regarding Trump or that the FBI needs to be held accountable? Absolutely not! Says a lot about them...
It also is an EXCELLENT example of why we will ALWAYS get our hand bit if we ‘reach across the aisle’ - they HATE US, they DESPISE US, even to the point of not a single one being concerned that the FBI was used to spy on an opposition political campaign. Think about it.

Quite the contrary. Many in the FBI combed through the memo and did in fact find one factual error due to a poorly worded sentence that did not say what it intended to say. Nunes and Gowdy promptly corrected the grammar in that sentence.
The fact that the FBI did find one error and it was corrected is a point in the favor of the memo's truthfullness.
This is the caliber of the crazy Leftists teaching at UT-Austin. If the entire place burned down tonight it would be a blessing for Texas.
All in due time, the longer this plays out the uglier it gets, which serves well for several good reasons. It drives a wedge between rational dems (the few that are left) and their former leadership (that is ultimately the target). It also provides great cover for Trump to continue his agenda essentially under the radar.
