Rosenstein is career DOJ, not an appointee.

From Wikipedia:

Prior to his current appointment, he served as a United States Attorney for the District of Maryland. Rosenstein was a former nominee to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. At the time of his confirmation as Deputy Attorney General in April 2017, he was the nation's longest-serving U.S. attorney.

It is correct to say Rosenstein was in the DOJ system at a the time he was appointed. Typically, Federal Prosecutors are required to resign by incoming administrations, but Rosenstein was not required to. He was appointed by Trump on January 13, before inauguration, indicating his hiring as Assistant AG was important enough to be decided early. Trump did indeed choose Rosenstein for the position whereby Rosenstein then appointed Mueller - that is without a doubt.

I have no doubt Trump would like to have that choice back. Trump would probably like to have the Sessions choice back as well. Is Rosenstein a partisan? Is he a mole? Or is he just spineless and won't control Mueller? Nobody knows.

I stand corrected! Rosenstein is career DOJ, but he was US Attorney for MD before his current gig, and was confirmed in April 2017. He must have reauthorized the Page FISA warrant within mere days of assuming his post. Rosenstein is a swamp dweller, but given the circumstance it's possible he may have been manipulated into doing so.

Not a contradiction. DD is an appointment that must be approved by the Senate, but the DD must be from Civil Service. Moves from General Services to Senior Executive Service salaries.

Yes, a setup. I wonder if they discussed it in the missing text messages?

Chris Christie may have recommended RR when Christie was head of the transition team. Incompetent NJ gov.

Hate to be the picker of nits, but what is the damage with Hurd and Wenstrup?

It’s 5 on the corrupt coast (the eastern one). Vote is scheduled for 8?

Indeed, I am wondering WHO suggested Rosenstein for the job.

I will give Obama a lot of credit where it is due - he made sure his cronies and fellow travelers were in the DOJ, and thus, the FBI. There is NO WAY Eric Holder would appoint someone unknown or untrusted to a position where that person would set off a wide-ranging special counsel investigation against Obama. The DOJ of course is supposed to be “above reproach” in its neutrality, but we all know it is not. Given its extremely broad powers, it never can be. Perhaps only Republicans are that naive.

Obama’s DOJ was his political operations and community organizing HQ. He made sure of it.

...WHO suggested Rosenstein for the job...

Ronald Tenpas of the Morgan, Lewis & Bockius law firm. Chris Christie brought Tenpas on to the Trump transition team, altough Morgan-Lewis have been Trump's tax lawyers too.

And what was the thinking then behind appointing Rosenstein?

I think Tenpas and RR were pals at one time.

Before this all started, RR was known as a Republican (although an East Coast liberal one) and was actually a Federalist Society member, at least at one time. And one of few prosecutors who has put Democrat politicians in jail.

No reason to doubt his cred until recently, although prosecutors are bound to have enemies.

Interesting. Andrew McCarthy at NRO wrote today about how he believes Rosenstein has simply disappeared in his supervision of Mueller. IMHO, its a bizarre political situation and absurd governance position where Rosenstein let Mueller lose, and now is the only one who can directly control him.

Grassly has requested that Podesta turn over any and all correspondence with Cody Shearer (and others) as it relates to the fake dossier.

Yep.

It seems bizarre. That’s why there are alternate theories, like RR was undercover Deep State and mastermind, or the completely opposite thought that he’s working for Trump to a), give Mueller cred to kill the collusion story for good, or b), has tasked Mueller with an undercover prosecution of the Clinton-Obama gang.

From the same thread, and I did not know this:
—————

Will Hurd is a Cheap Labor Express owned swamp dweller.

He has a YUGE district, in West Texas and kowtows to the Open Borders COC cabal.

He needs to hear from ALL OF US...and especially those who live in his district (23, TX).

Tell Hurd the T*rd to #ReleaseTheMemo and start answering to his constituents and tax payers, rather than his Open Borders paymasters.

I should look for a live thread.

The one name that is missing from all of this is John Carlin - Deputy AG for the DOJ National Security Division under Loretta Lynch

His office would have approved all FISA warrants, certainly for something as important as spying on people around Trump. He resigned in 2016, a mere 5 weeks before the election, which assuming a Clinton victory, would have likely given him even higher office, no?

Maybe he’s spotless. But certainly, he would know a lot about everything occurring with FISA at that time.
