I travelled a lot on business and over the years I would by chance meet certain people in hotels or restaurants or trendy bars. But he was by far the most genuine celebrity I ever met.
On one of his live albums, he talked about how when he was starting out how he played his guitar while sitting on a lifeguard stand by the ocean.
He said " I was thrilled that *someone* would enjoy my songs. Now I've been told we've just played to 25,000 people!"
I wager he was humble, until he "made it", then it went to his head.
In the song "This Old Guitar" he mentions how his guitar "gave him his lovely lady, and I guess it tore us apart"
I think he was alluding to that.
Far out, man!
