The shock and outrage over Facebook and Google 'embedding' people in the Trump campaign is dumb
Business Insider ^ | October 11, 2017 | Mike Shields

People are shocked that Facebook and Google apparently "embedded" staff in the Trump campaign.

• But big-spending advertisers get hands-on treatment from platforms all the time.

• The tech giants made this offering available to Hillary Clinton, and also brands like Clorox.

Did you hear that Facebook and Google helped swing the 2016 election by planting people in the Trump campaign?

It was on 60 Minutes the other night, when a stunned Lesley Stahl quizzed Trump digital ad guru Brad Parscale on how the tech giants planted staffers inside Trump HQ:

Brad Parscale: Well, we had our-- their staff embedded inside our offices.

Lesley Stahl: What?

Brad Parscale: Yeah, Facebook employees would show up for work every day in our offices.

Lesley Stahl: Whoa, wait a minute. Facebook employees showed up at the Trump headquarters—

Whoa is right! Apparently, Stahl is not familiar with the concept of "advertising sales." But she has exposed a dark ad industry secret. Marketers that spend a lot of money with a given media partner get special treatment.

For example, Clorox is a big Facebook ad spender. They spend so much in fact that sales executives from Facebook have badges* that get them into the marketer's headquarters, reported Ad Age....

Thirty years ago...ABC, CBS, NBC, WaPo, Newsweek, Time NY Times...would have been the only ones to be embedded into a Presidential election.

So now, the social media giants are embedded, and bypassing the news media. Why go and read the news garbage, when you can get the message straight from the candidate himself?

The other shocker here....it took almost a year for Lesley Stahl to dig into this tidbit?

Are they trying to pretend that Clinton wasn’t doing the same thing, along with the TV news outlets?

Facebook Will Share Users’ Political Leanings With ABC News, BuzzFeed

By Kerry Flynn

Facebook has begun digging through its users’ public posts for insight into their political views and will give the findings to ABC News and BuzzFeed to help their coverage of the 2016 presidential election.

The company confirmed the partnership with the two news organizations in an email to The Huffington Post on Friday. As part of the experiment, Facebook will categorize status updates about politicians and policy issues by adult Facebook users in the U.S. as positive, negative or neutral. The data will guide ABC and BuzzFeed’s reporting on the political leanings of certain demographics.

Facebook’s data will first be used by ABC News during its midterm election coverage next week, specifically discussing 2016 presidential candidates and issues. BuzzFeed News will use the data regularly for political analysis.
The partnership was first reported by Politico...

Lesley Stahl was born in December, 1941.

Pearl F___ing Harbor month.

The fact that she is still on the air tells you all you need to know about the MSM demographic.

So FB does what news media have been doing for many decades, of not centuries. Back in the 70s there were so many “community organizations” and their issues and egos competing to get their face on TV that the City News Bureau embedded staff in the Alinsky organizations to tell the media which person in which organization on which issue was the “RIGHT” person to contact and inteview.

But funny, although the organizations far from the lakefront had the largest and noisiest and most photogenic protests, the amount of coverage an organization or person got was directly related to how close that organization was to the lakefront, and to the lakefront communities where the media people lived.

The coverage of the best stories was suppressed in favor of coverage of their personal friends.

When the Wicker Park neighborhood across the river suddenly became hot and the home of news media people, then suddenly its stories appeared in the media, even though it had become boring and no longer had stories worth covering.

I haven’t watched 60 minutes in years, but I taped and watched this one, because I was intrigued with this Brad Pascale guy. Amazing person, who made you feel good about Trump and the future.

If anyone, anyone knew about Russian collusion this guy would have, and he basically put it to rest. Stahl had her mouth open the entire interview. I mean she has to be the most naïve person of them all.

Once again, we see how utterly stupid the Clinton and all her staff and money were. This guy, is plucked from obscurity and he’s focused like a laser.

Really worth watchinig, Folks.

The Clinton team was offered the same thing, but they refused. Joke is on them.

If you go back to 2016, and really look at the method of skipping TV advertising...maxing out on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube...a smart candidate with a dynamic video-manufacturing staff can do free advertising for the most part, and maybe run a campaign on less than $20-million (consider that Hillary spent in the region of $650-million). I think you could even run 3rd party situations at the state level now...if you find the right team to take advantage of social media.
