Dont give up on Trump just yet. It is far too early to throw in the towel and come to the conclusion that this is another status quo presidency. This is anything but.
Trumps decision to work with Democratic leadership over the contentious DACA issue on immigration is the latest sign that the typical Republican vs. Democrat dichotomy is dying. At least, lets hope with all our hearts. It is likely a smart move to work with both parties to remain flexible and pragmatic, then they will owe you come the end of the year when you finally get to tax reform.
Wednesday nights round of striking a deal with the Democrats, essentially going around the do-nothing Congress of Paul Ryan / Mitch McConnell, shows that Trump is really throwing a wrench in things. No longer do Republican presidents only have to go along with what Republican lawmakers want. The Obama years are over when laws were enacted upon strict party lines. America is changing and Trump is bringing this to a reality in his efforts to deal with whoever is ready to make America Great Again in Congress.

He’s our only hope. If only for Supreme Court appointment if nothing else.
It hasn’t occurred to me to give up on Trump. So far all we are seeing is The Art of the Deal as distant spectators. We are clueless as to what is going on behind the scenes and equally in the dark as to what form the final deal will take.
In fact, why anyone would give up on Trump at this point is a mystery. He’s a world class negotiator. What Trump supporter wouldn’t at least wait to see what he comes up with?
Who’s got the Pelosi/Schumer PING list?
Trump will never be Ronald Reagan. He is what he is. Yet he if nothing else prevented the election of the criminal left wing lowlife Hillary Clinton. If that vile woman had become President the cultural deterioration of America would have accelerated. If you look at Trump’s personal and business history, don’t expect inherent greatness. Be grateful however that he was able to rally the American people at a critical juncture in their history.
What contentions? How about enforce the law and throw them out.
Yes. EOs and judicial appointments. Is the glass half empty or half full? Some people had their expectations out of whack. I am not surprised by most of this.
I’m ready to give up on the people who won’t give President Trump a chance. Certainly the Dems, also the elected Rs in Congress, and many on these threads and elsewhere who call themselves “conservative,” who were ready to abandon him the first second he said or did something that didn’t conform to their expectations. No giving time, no looking beyond the immediate to a longer term solution. Nope, it’s gotta be 100% all of the time, or bye bye. That’s no better than the Dems.
65 million of us. No cracks.
Hes our only hope. If only for Supreme Court appointment if nothing else.””
Correction:
Appointments.......plural
I haven't given up. But I'm getting a little nervous.
Trump is taking exactly the correct approach to making conservative progress any time soon.
Our governing bodies don’t have the moral integrity to get the job done to the extent any of us would prefer.
That means there will be compromises and bitter pills along the way.
It is up to us to help resolve this in the mid-terms, to the extent we can.
That means more action outside FR and in your communities, school boards, town halls, and county GOP teams at the precinct and district level.
You mean Ronald Reagan who got suckered by the Democrats on immigration?
Trump is gritty with no illusions just like we are.
This is not going to come out right, no matter how I say it. But here is the truth, fwiw. In any gathering of people (outside of Mensa get togethers and the like), ~half of those present will be of below average IQ. According to the bell curve, most will be only somewhat below average, while a smattering will be far lower.
Not especially sharp people tend to see things in binary terms. I.e.: Trump says he’s ending DACA: that’s good, very good. But Trump says he’s negotiating with Dems:that’s bad, very bad.
It’s frustrating but it’s also reality. Seeing the Big Picture is a function of intelligence. Those that lack it to some/a certain degree will not, and rarely can be made to, focus on the Big Picture. Rather, they have their Current Fact, and anyone who doesn’t embue it with the proper interpretation [i.e.: theirs] is a sellout.
The good news is that if a deal emerges that is on par with what Trump usually manages via negotiation, the binaries will be back. The Deal will be the newest fact, and will likely be seen as, ‘good, very good.’
Eddie and the Turtle may figure out what LBJ knew...better to have someone like Trump inside the tent pi$$ing out than outside the tent pi$$ing in.
Trump knows democrats - he’s got their number...
Trump won’t be played for a fool on immigration like Reagan and Bush.
The GOP Do Nothing Congress did nothing about DACA when Obama was president, and that was a GOOD THING.
Completely understandable. Trump has to say certain things to set both sides—the Dems and the Uniparty—up for the desired outcome. For us, lacking specific insights into his negotiating strategy, it is almost guaranteed to be hair-raising at times.
Fortunately, Trump understands what kind of outcome is required. It’s his base that elected him in ‘16, and if he’s to be reelected, it will be us again. He won’t let us down.
Trump is our ONLY shot.
We weren’t going to everything we wanted with Trump, but we are going to get a hell of a lot more with Trump than we would with anybody else.
