No, that’s not why he is there. Sessions’ confirmation took a week or two, and while he was waiting, that Obama holdover was still doing damage. They appointed Rosenstein, and since he was in the Obama Administration as US attorney for Baltimore I think it was, he could just move straight over to DOJ. Not sure if he required confirmation, but he started serving right away. It made sense at the time, but then Sessions recused himself and then Rosenstein revealed himself to be a plant. Firing him for appointing Mueller would have led to a firestorm, but at this point, it may make things better. Rosenstein is the guy who provided the reasons for firing Comey, yet he appointed Mueller because Trump fired Comey. It was a setup, and people who support Trump see that.
I don’t think Rosenstein is Sessions’ fault. That he is still there, maybe.
Breitbart reports otherwise:
‘Sessions was reported to have played a significant role in the selection of Rosenstein by President Donald Trump for this important position. Speaking to a business group Monday, Sessions emphasized the centrality of the Deputy AG position to the effective functioning of the Justice Department and expressed his excitement at Rosensteins imminent arrival at DOJ. Thats the central person in your team, Sessions said, Virtually all departments report to the deputy, who manages the department. Its a powerful position.’
Trump nominated Rosenstein, the Senate confirmed. I don’t know who (if anyone) advised Trump.

Sometimes I wonder about that. Why not can the lot of them. We are never going to get any favorable press anyway, what is the down side?
