So, just as a point of departure, let’s just say that each gun weighed 15 lbs which is absurd. Of course that would be ridiculous for a pistol which tend to be about 2-3 lbs; a 1911 Colt is about 2.5 lbs and that’s on the heavier side. An M1 weighs just about 10 lbs which to me is unbelievable, they feel like they weigh 35 pounds!
So they got 4971 call it 5000 guns, let’s whack that back to 4500 to subtract for wooden stocks. That’s 67,500 lbs of steel. Worth about 2 cents a pound, let’s call it 5 cents a pound. That’d be $3375 which is solidly double what the real yield is.
There should be little or no question that at least ten cops were employed to perform this munificent task. There are 7 in the picture. Cost? $200 a day? That would be very low, probably more like $350 with admin and taxes and car expenses driving their asses out there and probably a $500 truck rental to drive the stuff out to the scrapper.
They spent minimally $2.5K to do this and probably recovered $1500. They sold 4970 guns and I’m certainly prepared to say that 4000 of them were garbage, but they managed to lose $1000 selling at minimum 500 guns worth $400 each which is $200K.
Liberal “Cash for Clunkers” mentality.
Death or destruction is always the first “solution” proposed.
But the liberal's feel good about themselves factor was immeasurable.
This, in a state that selectively bans the burning of firewood.
