Very few actually. Even the president of the country Mikhail Mikhail Gorbachev was a secret Christian when the country was officially atheist. There were few true believers after 70 years of Communism.

The US left has spent the last 20 years turning people into true believers in socialism, whites being the source of all evil in the world, and identity politics. The end of the Soviet Union was the rejection of Marxism. A division of the US would be a divide between Marxist American and traditional American. It’s 1920s Russia or the civil war in Spain not the fall of the Soviet Union. Why would you even conflate the two?
