Jim and the moderators can't possibly view every post on this site.
Who Reads FR? Over 400,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic since inception in 1996 and our forum is read daily by over two hundred thousand freedom loving citizens and patriots from all around the country, and all around the world. We're currently delivering over twenty-five million pageviews per month to over six million monthly visitors.
Great ... wonderful.
Then what's the problem with having a thread that any number of people who are veterans of this site view as worthwhile reading maybe .. possibly .. benefiting someone else outside of the site?
When we read a thread that directs us to any site, don't the owners of that site get some benefit from it. Doesn't the Wall Street Journal or the New York Times or any other site on the web use their "hits" as justification for their rates of advertising? They may not receive a "dollar per click" benefit from it, but doesn't my click on that site go to them being able to tell their advertisers, "See, we get a lot of eyes on the site. If you advertise with us, you'll get those very same eyes". What's the difference?
And there is something that has been bothering me. How do we know that the person posting articles from CFP is getting anything from it? Simply because he doesn't respond to responses? Maybe the article itself reflects everything that he wanted to say?
