Agreed on Number 1 from the album Rock and Roll Animal.
Best one ever.

Seems Gimme Shelter gets the most votes on this thread, as well it should.

I always think of the scene in “ Manhunter” where the killer blasts that song. Epic

Ah. Ok. I looked at it like riffs that were either not at all or only very weakly incorporated into the rest of the song. All three qualify.

I don't follow this advice, but you should play for 10-20 minutes a day. It's easy to find that much time. Just to keep finger strength and feel. I am surprised, but the dexterity comes back quickly, it's like riding a bicycle. I don't play much, a few hours a week, but it is rewarding.
Deluxe is a very very nice amp. I sold a blackface Pro Reverb - my first amp - about 30 years ago (maybe 40 by now, time flies!). It went to a good musician. I have no regret. Maybe, if I get a windfall, maybe one of these days a Deluxe will come my way. Have you seen the knotty pine version?
My playing improves most when I practice on the acoustic, so I'm probably 80% of the time on an old Alvarez (I am determined to get a couple Kottke tunes under my belt, starting with Fisherman, and then Mona Ray) and the rest on a Schecter Classic (neck through).

Wow... 190 responses and the best intro ever not even mentioned.
Layla - Derek and the Dominoes
That’s Duane Allman, not Eric Clapton, on that intro btw... his idea.

Awwwww..You got rid of a pro reverb.....Great amp!

Simple as that, except without the follow on that it’s Duane and his composition.

I’ll be danged, I did miss it.
Good taste btw.

We could argue about the intro to Mississippi Queen but for me, that’s the quintessential rock guitar tone. Les Paul Junior w/P90’s through those beast Sunn Coliseum amps dimed all the way.
YMMV

I can’t believe that acoustic opening took 101 posts

There are so many styles that I enjoy listening to, I lack the focus to get really proficient at any of them. Texas swing, ckicken'pickin' country, jazz, blues, and the likes of Kottke or Tommy Emaunnuel - or any number of players with unique styles. Solos from Steely Dan songs are GREAT for expanding lick repertoire. All of it is "hard," but just in the sense it takes time and a method (play slow and RELAXED) to get from here to there.
Thanks for the chat. There are quite a few guitar player who post on FR, a few are professional grade. You must be on that track, "metronome" is a dead giveaway! It's not music if you don't play it strictly in time.
