If EMP weapons were that easy to build, we’d have them in our arsenal.
Some serious flaws in the logic. For example, submarine launched missiles are not as easy as one might think. Other points are accurate, such as NK could detonate an EMP over their own country and harm SK and Japan. Overall, it’s worth reading and planning for.
“However, before we could all break out the freeze-dried food, and lock and load, and do our molon labe, etc., 90% of Americans would be dead. They would be wiped out very quickly by starvation, disease, dehydration, and other EMP-induced catastrophes.”
Nope. Starvation, disease, dehydration, and other EMP-induced catastrophes all require time to work, and that is exactly the situation in which preparedness would be helpful. The LDS church would come out best. Conservatives and country folks (but I repeat myself) second best. Urban liberals would be beyond our help for long enough that things would get ugly in and near the cities.
If you’re going to poo poo an idea you’d better get plenty of fiber.
The last sentence is an utter and complete lie. We could do that back in the 1960’s.
Put insul-Fab conductive sheets behind your drywall and use an isolation transformer with line to line and line to ground caps, resistors, and VOC’s good for 150 amps. Your home will be fine.

The NORKS can probably field a localized, small version that could knock out, say So Cal. Sure that would be tragic, and a lot of people would die. But we would recover pretty quickly.
China and Russia probably have units large enough—plus the delivery systems to get them where they need to be. That would be a concern, but in that case MAD still exists and they do not have a death wish.
So, its a serious threat. Serious if it happens over YOU. Not full blown dark ages stuff that fill novels.
