CNN made a mistake....
The REAL scientist, the one with credentials and an honest application of the factors involved, and was unafraid to attack the myth built up around some mystical properties that carbon dioxide simply does not have, should not have been there. Water vapor is, and always has been, the major factor in keeping the biosphere of earth within a certain limited range. The oceans cannot, by their very nature, absorb endless amounts of energy, without that energy being turned to the volatillization of the liquid form of water to water vapor, and in doing so, effect the COOLING of the surface waters. Deep layers of ocean water are not effected by additional heat, as it never penetrates that far (some 1500 meters of depth), where the water temperature is a uniform level of about 4 degrees Centigrade.
There may be an upwelling of heat from a deep-sea volcanic vent, but this is quickly dissipated by the warmer water rising rapidly to the surface, where the effect is to accelerate the formation of water vapor, and in the Arctic Ocean, has the effect of melting the polar ice cap from the BOTTOM. There is a huge outflow of relatively less saline water from the strait between Greenland and Newfoundland, which has the effect of shifting the Gulf Current to the east, warming much of the Scandinavian Peninsula and the British Isles, otherwise they would be as cold as Fairbanks, Alaska or Penobscot County, Maine.

Isn't the place where light/heat ceases to penetrate the oceans called the Twilight Zone?
