I do believe the joy of marriage you speak of is only possible with God the head of the home.
It is often times the problem is two people marry that should not have married to begin with rather than divorce as the problem.

I disagree. My mother almost divorced my dad when I 8. She was calling all the shots in the house, bossing him around, and driving him out of the house with her nagging. My Dad turned to work to avoid family life. My mother was desperately unhappy and so was the entire family. Slowly over time my mother changed. She went from bossing my dad around to deferring to him, she stop herself when she realized she was nagging, and generally acting very submissive with him. Our entire family life turned around and become much happier.
Years later I asked my mother about that time and she said that one day she decided that she was going to put my father in charge. It wasn’t easily at first as everyone tells women to act strong, be in charge, ect but she said it felt much more natural. If you want a happy marriage the wife needs to submit and Obey to the Husband as the Husband submits and Obeys Christ. It doesn’t require matching personalities, or good match making, just acceptance and practicing the proper roles for man and wife.
Most marriages break up because the wife is in rebellion from her proper role and there are very few men who will ever give up a submission and obedient wife. They’re worth more than gold.
