My point is that we're not dealing with decent people. They hate you. They won't hesitate to kill you, and they truly don't give a shit if you think of them as "cowards".
As for "decent" people ... I can tell you first hand that decent people acquire whatever weapons they believe might be useful for the defense of themselves and others. Including highly covert weapons like credit-card knives.

Moreso: you are the _designated_ villain.
Remember, these people’s ultimate purpose is “revolution”. Not against any group in particular, not for any particular ends, but the purpose and goal is “revolution” itself, in perpetuity. To do so, they need a designated villain - and that’s us. Despite “our kind” being largely responsible for their enjoyed rights of free speech, owning high-quality products (clothing, communications, cameras, etc), standard of living luxurious enough for them to indulge their snowflake fantasies, etc they have designated “our culture” as the worst thing ever which must be destroyed by all means possible.
To wit: they hate you because they need someone to hate, and they’ve designated you.
