If I could get a Carry Permit here in S. CA (fat chance where I live), the Hi Point would be way too heavy to carry, but I still like having it.
I use the larger 10 Round Magazines because it extends the Grip about 3/4” making it better suited for my Hand.
For $140 I sure can’t complain. It is what it is and it is dependable, at least the one that I own.

Perhaps we need to bring back the RG, IMP and EIG. The original “hotter than a two dollar pistol” pistols.

Years ago there was an article in a gun mag (shooting times I think) where they ran a performance test of an RG against some expensive brand name revolver. The RG performed almost as well as the more expensive gun. It probably wont last as long, but it will get the job done.
My favorite range gun is a s&w 625, but I always bring tool because a revolver is susceptible to fouling to the point where it won’t go bang and it takes time and tools to get going again. Other than a government issued M9, I’ve never had an auto go down as hard as a revolverat the range.
I don’t put too many rounds through my S&W Model 29.
It is my pride and joy and I baby the thing. Sounds silly, but it’s a Piece of Art to me. It is just a gorgeous Firearm.
I have owned it for decades and I will never sell it.

I have one, mod 16 I think. So far no problems, but I found a good article a while back, it seems RG was made with cheap metal and the cylinder can end up not locking into place so the round does not center the barrel when fired. Check for excessive wear around the cylinder pin too, it might be that the frame has too much wear to hold the pin in place.
If it wears too much, the round can hit half the barrel and send half a bullet flying to the side.
Mine is still in good shape but I haven’t used it much. Pretty accurate though, not picky about ammo, never failed me yet. Great around here where Copperheads and Water Moccasins are more common than stray dogs...

You should always have more than one gun. As you point out, if you ever have to shoot a bad guy, you lose your gun to the police evidence room just at the time you might really need it (if the bad guy has friends).
Ideally, you should have many guns. Including having guns stashed away from your home, in case you get your household guns stolen or confiscated.
